Published Studies Related to Butalbital, Aspirin, and Caffeine (Butalbital / Aspirin / Caffeine)

Butalbital in the treatment of headache: history, pharmacology, and efficacy. [2001.11]
Analgesics containing butalbital compounded with aspirin, acetaminophen, and/or caffeine are widely used for the treatment of migraine and tension-type headache. The butalbital-containing compounds are efficacious in placebo-controlled trials among patients with episodic tension-type headaches.Because of concerns about overuse, medication-overuse headache, and withdrawal, their use should be limited and carefully monitored.

A protocol for butalbital, aspirin and caffeine (BAC) detoxification in headache patients. [1990.07]
The abuse of the combination drug containing butalbital 50 mg, aspirin 325 mg and caffeine 40 mg (or BAC), is commonly recognized by headache specialists as causing headaches. Despite this widespread problem, there is not a published treatment regimen for the BAC detoxification of patients. The other two patients were still BAC free 18 and 14 months after detoxification.

Metabolomic Fingerprint After Bariatric Surgery [Completed]
Background: Obesity is associated with multiple diseases. Bariatric surgery is the most effective therapy for severe obesity that cannot only reduce body weight but also obesity-associated morbidity. Objective: The metabolic alterations associated with obesity and respective changes after bariatric surgery are incompletely understood. Design: In the longitudinal observational study, the investigator applied a 1H-NMR-based global, untargeted metabolomics strategy on human serum samples that were collected before and repeatedly up to one year after distinct bariatric procedures (sleeve gastrectomy, proximal and distal Roux-en Y gastric bypass; RYGB). For comparison, the investigator also analyzed serum samples from normal-weight and less obesity obese subjects that were matched for 1-year postoperative BMI values of the surgical groups.
