Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) - Summary

HYTRIN SUMMARY

HYTRIN®
(terazosin hydrochloride)

HYTRIN (terazosin hydrochloride) is an alpha-1-selective adrenoceptor blocking agent.

HYTRIN (terazosin hydrochloride) is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). There is a rapid response, with approximately 70% of patients experiencing an increase in urinary flow and improvement in symptoms of BPH when treated with HYTRIN. The long-term effects of HYTRIN on the incidence of surgery, acute urinary obstruction or other complications of BPH are yet to be determined.

HYTRIN is also indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents such as diuretics or beta-adrenergic blocking agents.

Published Studies Related to Hytrin (Terazosin)

Effects of terazosin and tolterodine on ureteral stent related symptoms: a double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial. [2013]
discomfort... CONCLUSIONS: Terazosin plus tolterodine improves ureteral stent-related

Effect of terazosin on lower urinary tract symptoms and pain due to double-J stent: a double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial. [2011]
OBJECTIVE: We evaluated the effect of terazosin in the improvement of lower urinary tract symptoms and flank pain in patients with internal ureteral stents... CONCLUSIONS: Administration of terazosin for patients with an internal ureteral stent relieved some stent-related symptoms such as flank pain, pain during voiding, frequency, nocturia and urgency, but had no effect on hematuria. [Retrospective analysis of the combined therapy of terazosin with chlormezanone for chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome] [2009.08]
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy and safety of the alpha1-receptor inhibitor terazosin combined with chlormezanone in the treatment of chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS)... CONCLUSION: Both terazosin and chlormezanone can relieve the symptoms in CP/CPPS patients and improve their life quality, but their combined use may produce a better efficacy than either terazosin or chlormezanone used alone.

Efficacy of combined amlodipine/terazosin therapy in male hypertensive patients with lower urinary tract symptoms: a randomized, double-blind clinical trial. [2009.07]
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy and safety of Amlodipine alone or in combination with terazosin for the presence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and hypertension. LUTS and hypertension often coexist in elderly men... CONCLUSIONS: The results of this 4-week, double-blind, randomized trial have demonstrated that in Chinese male hypertensive patients with LUTS, low-dose Amlodipine plus terazosin therapy appears to be a safe and effective combination therapy to control both conditions, especially for those with predominant overactive bladder symptoms.

[Amlodipine combined with terazosin reduces postvoid residual and the risk of acute urinary retention] [2009.05]
OBJECTIVE: This prospective randomized double-blinded clinical trial was designed to explore the effects of amlodipine and the combination of amlodipine with terazosin in improving postvoid residual (PVR) in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and concomitant hypertension... CONCLUSION: Amlodipine alone or combined with terazosin can improve the PVR of the LUTS patient effectively, but had no significant difference compared with terazosin.

Clinical Trials Related to Hytrin (Terazosin)

Pilot Study of Terazosin in Treatment of Antidepressant Induced Excessive Sweating [Completed]
This study is based on the hypothesis that terazosin, a blocker of alpha-1 receptors, will be effective in reducing excessive sweating caused by antidepressant treatment, and will have minimal adverse effects.

FLOMAX Versus HYTRIN in Patients With the Signs and Symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia [Completed]
1. To study the early onset of symptomatic relief afforded by FLOMAX® capsules, 0. 4 mg daily as compared to HYTRIN® capsules, 5 mg (with titration) daily in patients with the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) 2. To evaluate patient's tolerability to the use of FLOMAX® capsules 0. 4 mg daily in comparison to HYTRIN® capsules, 5 mg (with titration) daily for the treatment of the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia

A Pharmacodynamic Study of Dapoxetine Concomitantly Administered in Participants Taking Terazosin [Completed]
The purpose of this study is to assess the pharmacodynamics (the actions or effects a drug has on the body), pharmacokinetics (blood levels), safety, and tolerability of dapoxetine 60 mg when concomitantly administered in participants taking terazosin.

Effect of Amlodipine Monotherapy or Combined With Terazosin on Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms and Hypertension [Completed]
The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of low dose amlodipine alone, or combined with low dose terazosin in male patients with both lower urinary tract symptoms and hypertension.

Excessive Sweating Caused by Antidepressants: Measurement and Treatment With Terazosin [Completed]
The study consists of measurement of antidepressant-induced excessive sweating and its treatment with an experimental medication, terazosin (approved for hypertension), that will be added to the antidepressant. This study is for people who take an antidressant due to a depressive disorder. This is an open-label study (no placebo group) that will last 5 weeks, with one week of baseline measurement and four weeks of treatment with the study medication. The study is based on the hypothesis that terazosin will be effective in reducing the severity of excessive sweating caused by antidepressant treatment, and will have minimal side-effects.
