| Benefits: | | The benefit is that it cleared up the giardia infection I had. |
| Side effects: | | The side effects were scary, and I was not prepared for them. The second day I was on it I became very dizzy, nauseous, shaky, lightheaded and sweaty. It happened so quickly that I got scared and had to leave work. The next day I was still shaky and dizzy, but not as bad as the day before. I remained nauseous, shaky, and dizzy for the remainder of the treatment. Doctors and pharmacists should warn patients of these possible side effects so they can prepare for them if necessary. Also, let your work know you are on this so they expect a change in you during your treatment. Take with food because the taste is awful. |

| Benefits: | | The benefits were that the infection was eleminated. The infection had apparently grown over a period of several months and then reached a point that it suddenly was accute. I say it grew slowly over several months because my abdominal area, even as far up as including my waist, had grown from about 30 inches to about 33 inches and I required clothing two sizes larger. I had become more and more weak but thought that it was my age (even though up until a few months before the swelling started I was still hiking up to 10 or 11 miles a day in the Andes in Chili or in the Canadian Rockies. Weakness had suddenly become so accute that it was causing my heart to labor so much that radio-active dye x-rays were taken of my heart. My abdomin had a sonigram to see if I had ovarian cancer. |

The metronidazole 500 mg and the ciprofloxacin 500 mg wer prescribed one tablet of each twice a day for two weeks. However, after several days I began to have slight light headedness, tingling in my fingers, much short-term memory loss, and constant whistling in my ears. By the sixth day these side-effects had intensified to the point that my hands were shaking, I was dizzy, and the doctor told me to discontinue the meds.Eleven weeks have passed and I still have CONSTANT whistling in my ears, my short term memory has improved but has not totally returned, and my bowels still do not work without taking a stimulant. I am taking probotics (460 mg each,6 billion total microorganisms per capsule twice daily), eating such as Activia daily, etc to try to repace the healthy bacteria level in my intestines but as stated earlier this is not yet accomplished. I am very tired of hearing the constant whistling in my ears. |
| Comments: | | This may be covered in the treatment benefits section, The prescribed dosage was 500 mg (along with ciprofloxacin 500 mg) both twice daily for two weeks: however, by the sixth day the side effects were severe enough that the doctor told me to discontinue taking both the metronidazole and the ciprofloxacin. |

| Benefits: | | I took my puppy to the vet. The puppy was having diarrhea and vomiting. The vet gave him metoclopramide (perinorm) for vomiting and Metronidazole for diarrhea.
Within 2 days the puppy died. He was so weak after metronidazole that he could not move . He was quiet ok before I took him to vet.

| Benefits: | | Personally, i found metronidazole to be an equivalent to a concentration drug, it severely improved my intelligence and my overall concentration, i realise now that this drug, as it may be depressing, a new chapter in my life.
during the medication i received, i was severely depressed, however it got me thinking deeply towards why i was indeed depressed, and thus, i came to a solution.
it completely destroyed the bacteria that was within my abscess and treated me within 3 days, and aided my mind alot.
Within my experience with metronidazole, i have only to thank it for my A* papers and my mental health.
With that i have only this to say:
Take it, it aids the physical problems you have, and if your like me at all, with greater ambitions than any human can dream, This will make you realise all the problems you encounter, and it will cleanse you of your worries. |

| Side effects: | | I took my first dose before bed one night. In the morning I woke with a cold sore and a very large ulcer on my tongue. I attributed this to the slight fever I had been running periodically. My tongue became increasingly sore. The second pill, later on that day, caused sever stomach pain, cramping, diarhea, nausea, and hot flashes. The oral pain remained about the same. I took the third, and last, dose that afternoon is the worst experience I have ever had with a drug. Immediately after taking the pill blisters began to appear wherever the pill had touched my skin. This included the entirety of my tongue, mouth, lips, and throat. I called the PA that had prescribed the drug and told her about the reaction. She told me to discontinue the drug immediately and that was a possible side effect of this drug. Had I any idea what it was going to be like, and the intense pain I would endure because of it, thenI would never have taken it. |
