Effectiveness:   Highly Effective
Side effects:   Mild Side Effects

Treatment Info
Condition / reason:   anxiety, depression, panic attacks
Dosage & duration:   15mg taken one half twice per day for the period of couple of years, still take it
Other conditions:   hypokalemia, panic disorder
Other drugs taken:   Tranxene, K-Tabs

Reported Results
Benefits:   Felt 'normal' rather than in a state of panic and anxiety. Thoughts were clearer and not racing. Felt calm and peaceful.
Side effects:   I was told patients can gain weight on it - i didn't. (apparently you eat more, that's where the extra weight comes from)....can make you tired, which for me is good, as i'm very hyperactive.
Comments:   After trying many anti-depressants, anti-anxiety and panic drugs - sometimes alone, sometimes in combination, nothing really worked for years until i tried (and continue to use) Remeron. It has made a *world* of difference to me and my quality of life. Started out on 7.5 mg one per day - gradually increased it. Too much made me sleepy, but found a right balance. Wish i knew about the drug many many years ago.

Benefits:   I had mono which went undiagnosed and that, along with other life stressors had me very sick and run down. I was diagnosed with Irritable bowel syndrome and suffered from severe nausea. I was unable to sleep or eat and began to lose weight. I had tried many anti-nauseants to no avail and began remeron as a last resort. My nausea all but disappeared. I only became nauseated when working nights. My anxiety level also somewhat decreased.
Side effects:   I was very sleepy at first and would sleep up to 14 hours per day. I was also recovering from mono at the time, which may have contributed to my drowsiness. I felt a bit dazed at first as well.
Comments:   I took 15mg once a day at bedtime as it causes drowsiness and it could be increased to 30 mg although I never needed an increase. I took remeron to get rid of my nausea which was constant and severe and it worked. After 3 years I had a major crisis in my life and forgot to take my remeron for 4 days in a row. When I finally did take it I was incredibly tired and couldn't keep my eyes open all day. I felt stoned and the only factor that had changed had been the remeron. I decided to try stopping as I had not suffered from that severe nausea since starting remeron. It has been 2 months and the nausea has not yet returned. I have no other side effects.

Other conditions:   insomnia

Benefits:   Boosted my mood a fair amount. My MD chose this med because I was having significant insomnia, and it definitely helped that, which was great.
Side effects:   But after I had caught up on my sleep, I felt very grogged out, even in the daytime. This was not acceptable, and I soon stopped the med.
Comments:   Took before med to help with sleep and avoid daytime grogginess. But it still made me groggy during the day.

Dosage & duration:   30 mg taken 1 x daily for the period of 3 months
Other conditions:   fibromyalgia
Other drugs taken:   Ativan -- PRN, as needed

Benefits:   It made a noted difference to my depression, but not much to my anxiety. If anyone is hyperactive this drug seemed to be sedating and gentle (if u can handle that).
Side effects:   The only side effect i encounterd was sleepness, however i slept great every night but also felt like sleeping all day. i am a mother of 3 kids under 4 years old and soon found the loss of energy had to cope with. ** I realy have nothing bad to say about this drug, however if you are at a loss for energy to begin with, this drug will make it worse.
Comments:   30 mg tab 1 x daily for 3 months

Overall rating:
Effectiveness:   Considerably Effective
Side effects:   Extremely Severe Side Effects

Treatment Info
Condition / reason:   Depression, insomnia, Rx induced insomnia
Dosage & duration:   7.5mg taken once 1 hour before bed for the period of Only once so far, just started
Other conditions:   Anxiety, MPS, BPS
Other drugs taken:   Lexapro

Reported Results
Benefits:   None, just started. I rated a 7 due to the potential it has after one experience. Blue/green clouds are nothing to scoff at!
Side effects:   Hallucinations, waking up feeling as if in out to sea on a small sailboat and i am trying to walk below deck and its very rough waves outside. I was swaying pretty hard, then came the blue and green clouds, which i had to walk through, WHICH did not go away for hours, until i called in sick and took a nap. They should put a note on the Rx bottle "will(not just may) cause hallucinations". Although, i maintained, i do not know if i will try to stay on the medication - that was 2 nights ago.
Comments:   Lexapro 10mg in the morning. 7.5mg Remeron 1 hour before bed. Lexapro is WAY too stimulating. I cant imagine it making me groggy really, it feels almost like cathinone stimulation. On the verge of euphoric, but not, and very jittery - so i was hoping the remeron would counteract that like the doc said. Another day on the weekend this time(blue and green keyboard made it really hard to work in the morning) ill attempt to start again, hopefully that was a strange occurrence(although, it was entertaining, but not ok for going to work!).

Condition / reason:   Insomnia
Dosage & duration:   15-45 mg taken 1 dose bedtime for the period of 17 years
Other conditions:   Anxieties, bipolar,
Other drugs taken:   Clonazepam

Reported Results
Benefits:   Remeron (mertazapine) was a god send for me. I had chronic insomnia with sleep deprivation for 12 years and tried to treat it with OTC drugs. It appeared one night, not slowly over time. I tried several meds without success before my doctor suggested Remeron. It took a few weeks to take effect but it has been 100% successful for about 17 years now. I used to take up to 45 mg. at bedtime but have ratcheted it down to 15 mg. over the years. If I miss one dose I know it. Falling asleep is no problem. My problem is staying asleep for more than 2 or 3 hours night after night after night. . . Not fun.
Side effects:   No side effects. No hangover. No morning drowsiness.
Comments:   Take about 1/2 hour before bedtime.

Effectiveness:   Ineffective
Side effects:   Extremely Severe Side Effects

Treatment Info
Condition / reason:   Depression
Dosage & duration:   Not sure? Half a Pill taken before bed for the period of 1 week
Other conditions:   None
Other drugs taken:   None

Reported Results
Benefits:   Hardly any except I felt so physically tired that I couldn't even feel depressed.
Side effects:   I was so exhausted that I could hardly get out of bed and get to work. At work, I just wanted to put my head down and go to sleep. As soon as I got home around 6pm, I had to go to bed. It was ridiculous.
Comments:   I just started treatment for severe depression. I sleep okay, but have nightmares all night, which is why my doctor recommended Remeron. I am going to ask for a change in this because even though it has only been a few days, I am barely functional.

Treatment Info
Condition / reason:   Greater Depression
Dosage & duration:   30 Mg taken one time a day before bed. for the period of Two weeks now.
Other conditions:   Anxiety
Other drugs taken:   Wellbutrin

Reported Results
Benefits:   Depression has cleared up quite miraculously.
Side effects:   Eating too much - no sense of when to stop. Slight antihistamine feel.
Comments:   I had been on Celexa for two years, and noticed a major change in my libidio and concurrent diminishment of feeling in my sexual parts. As I am married I started taking Cialis to maintain an erection, and it worked fine, however, Cialis didn't make me feel any more during lovemaking, and the whole topic increased my depression and worry. I didn't wish my wife to find out I took Cialis because I love her dearly and didn't want her to think my sexual feelings were drug induced. I searched the internet for non-SSRI antidepressants with little or no sexual side effects. I talked to my psychiatrist about Mirtazapine and he was fine with taperinf me off of the Citalopram. Within days of decreasing the Citalopram I felt so much smarter. The Mirtazapine has really allayed the depression and most of my anxiety. I do also take Buproprion and the two things do seem to allay depression and anxiety. I definitely recommend trying Mirtazapine if you're depressed, especially if you either hate SSRIs, or haven't founnd anything else which works. It doesn't really have such bad side effects. And my dreaming has become really interesting. I actually can't wait to go to bed now. I did have a nightmare the first night I took it, but not since then. Instead I have had all sorts of dream desire fulfillment, and it's odd how much that can make you feel more resourceful for the rest of your day. I also wasn't able to work for the last two years because of moodiness and benzodiazpine use for anxiety and sleep. Now I have cut out all thosoe medications and I really do feel much better. Eating too much does seem to be an issue. I eat so much sometimes that I can't breate. That part is going to demand some serious self - control.
